How to Give the Right Gift to Your Significant Other

Why is there a need for you to give the right gift.

Whether a birthday, anniversary or holiday is approaching, you may feel that you’ve exhausted all ideas for meaningful gifts to give to your significant other. Your difficulty may also be compounded if you don’t have a budget that would allow you to offer a surefire winner such as a new car or luxury vacation.
Yet with a little ingenuity, you’ll be able to devise a gift that will represent your feelings and even boost the bond that the two of you share.

Look to the Future

Consider your significant other’s aspirations to come up with a gift that will help her with her future endeavors. If she’s just landed a new job, for instance, offer her a briefcase, laptop, leather journal or a high-end pen and pencil set that she can use as she climbs the corporate ladder.
If she hopes to switch careers, unveil your financial planning that would account for the money needed to pay her tuition to a college or trade school. You can also provide a set of coupons good for the family and household duties you’ll take on to save her time while she completes her education.

Remember the Past

Be sentimental with a gift that reminds your better half of the adventures that you’ve shared. Fill a keepsake box with printed pictures, handwritten notes, greeting cards and small souvenirs to chronicle moments of the past. Create a scrapbook by hand or a photo printing website that features images from when you met till now.
If you’re designing a version using cardstock, adhesives and embellishments, be sure to include journaling that describes your feelings at each step of the relationship and tidbits such as ticket stubs, playbills, flyers and brochures to help her remember your escapades together.

Suit Her Personality

Consider what makes your significant other laugh, think or relax and come up with a gift that evokes your desired reaction, satisfies a need or suits one of her interests. If your spouse loves competition, for instance, offer her an assortment of board games and puzzles that you can play together.
Give her a stack of presidential biographies or a gift certificate to a streaming service that will let her listen to podcasts if she enjoys politics. If she always mentions being cold as winter comes, give her a collection of cozy items like a scarf, plush blanket and robe, whimsical animal socks, mittens, fuzzy slippers.

Try to Learn Something

Add interest and improve your lives by signing your significant other up for a class you can take together. Consider a course to learn a foreign language if you’re planning on taking a trip to another country in the future. Learn to ballroom, hip hop or line dance.
Discover a craft as painting, pottery or jewelry making. If you’re always stumped about what to make for dinner, take sessions on cooking to discover how to prepare a variety of meals from different cultures.

Make a Resolution

Give your significant other the gift of your time – vow to spend more time together by making a pact to reach a common goal. If you’ve always talked about getting more physically fit, for example, gift her an assortment of workout clothing such as comfortable, moisture-wicking leggings, shirts and running shoes.
Agree to train in tandem to run in a race in your community. Choose a distance ranging from 5k to a full marathon depending on your level of fitness and how much time you have before the event. In conjunction with your training, you can also plan to kick a habit such as smoking or to adopt healthier eating habits and give up junk food, for instance.
The right gift for your significant other will do more than celebrate the occasion. The gesture can give a nod to the past you’ve shared and look ahead to years to come. It should also let her know how much you value your relationship and the joy you get when you are together.
