The Psychology Behind the Signs of Attraction

Rahul Thadani
Evolution has changed many things in us human beings, but the basic body language of attraction between a man and a woman, have undeniably remained pretty much the same for ages. Once you understand the basic psychology behind it, it becomes easier to become more perceptive about such things.
Some say that human beings are born to procreate, and as such, it becomes impossible to ignore some clear cut physical signs of attraction. It's natural human tendency (for men and women) to see an attractive person of the opposite (or the same) gender and have a strong desire to look again. What is it, that drives people to be attracted to each other? It's a primal instinct that has always been present in us, and it will never fade away.
Now, since this is a common occurrence, that has been happening since time immemorial, there are some glaring signs that show if one person is attracted to another. You may find, that some people are more perceptive to these physical signs, and sometimes, this is just something that you have to live with. Let's have a brief look at some of the most obvious signs that clearly indicate the presence of some love juices flowing at the sight of another person, and also marks the beginning of a relationship.

Men

Men are often accused of being greater philanderers than women, and are said to possess more of a roving eye. This is true to a certain extent, as men are more vocal about such things. Women are not far behind in this respect, but are a little more conservative, in most cases. They are better at veiling and disguising their feelings of attraction, and as a result of this, it is easier to detect signs from the men.
Nervousness: You'll see many men getting the jitters around an attractive woman, and more often than not, it will be pretty obvious that this man has developed an affinity for her. Appearing nervous, stammering, sweaty palms, and incoherent blabbering are just some of the signs that a guy likes you.
Efforts To Look Better: If a guy is suddenly dressing up more often when he meets you, or is unnaturally smelling like he's bathed in cologne, maybe he's trying to tell you something.
Listening Keenly: Take my word for it when I say that guys are bad listeners. It's probably not in our nature to genuinely hear what another person is saying, and this shows some undoubted remnants of the caveman instincts that fail to leave us. However, if you suddenly find that a guy is all ears, and a willing listener to inconsequential gibberish about your cosmetics, shopping habits, and other 'womanly' matters, then maybe you need to get wind and realize that he's attracted to you.
Compromising On Favorite Activities: Out of the many signs that a guy likes you, it does not get clearer than when he misses his favorite game to talk to you. He passes up a chance to hang out with his buddies, in order to spend some time around you. If you're looking for a guy to cling on to, this could be him. After all, women constantly need an ego massage every now and then. Who better to start a relationship with, than a guy who is mightily attracted to you.

Women

As mentioned before, women can easily disguise their attraction, and hence, it becomes extremely difficult to be perceptive to their signs. However, there are cracks here and there, which can shed some light on the fact that a woman is attracted to you.
Show Affinity: There are some clear signs of attraction, like a lot of smiling, and a lot of touching while speaking. Most men have no clue about such things though, and women being the mystifying creatures that they are, have the ability to completely astound and stupefy a lesser man.
Cultivating Interest: If you find a woman taking keen interest in things, that barely interest her, for your sake alone, then you probably don't need a clearer indicator. When she talks to you about your favorite games and teams, you know that she fancies you.
Over a period of time, you'll start seeing things in a clearer light. You'll become more receptive to all the signs from women, telling you that they are interested.
At the end of the day, it's all about being comfortable in your own skin. Learn to love yourself first, and it'll rub off on the people around you. Looking for signs of attraction does not imply that you need to alter who you are. Do not try and change yourself too much for the sake of others; just be yourself. Have faith, that sooner or later, you'll find someone who appreciates you and respects you for who you really are.
